FESTIVE CHEERS FOR THE UNDERPRIVILEGED AMAL Ihtimam (loosely translated as ‘prioritising the well- being of others’) is an annual festive programme that brings festive cheer to orphans and elderly living in shelter homes, as well as to poor families who otherwise have no funds for a proper celebration. This programme provides an opportunity to reflect on the loneliness of those living in orphanages and shelter homes, and help bring some cheer to them. Semarak Ramadan with Fire and Rescue Department’s personnel of the Shah Alam station The event is a reflection of appreciation for Bomba personnel who are on duty in saving lives even during the fasting month of Ramadan. Bank Islam’s management team was provided the opportunity to interact with members of the department together with their families, and even propose the right financial solutions for them. RM25,000 worth of Zakat funds were contributed to the asnaf and students of the village. The contribution included RM5,000 donated to Masjid Al-Hasaniah at the village. Semarak Ramadan In collaboration with Berita Harian , a prominent newspaper publication, this programme shares the joy of Ramadan with members of the public and communities, with further contributions in the form of Zakat to the disadvantaged. The event typically involves “ Berbuka Puasa ” with the participating communities together with a food donation activity for food stall owners at Bazaar Ramadans . Ramadan Syawal Korban RM4,500 contributed to Yayasan Chow Kit , a 24-hour crisis and drop-in centre providing meals, activities, therapy, case management, and educational programmes for at-risk children of Chow Kit during “ Buka Puasa ” at Menara Bank Islam. RM66,750 worth of contributions to 250 asnaf and 223 poor students and children, including orphans across the country. The contributions included cash donations to five poor and elderly fishermen and a machine for towing boats in Terengganu, which were made in collaboration with Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia Terengganu . Other beneficiaries included Rumah Teduh in Kangar, Perlis, a shelter home for children. RM27,250 worth of contributions for the fishing community in Batu Maung, Pulau Pinang. 101 asnaf including five beneficiaries who are disabled and diagnosed with chronic disease benefitted from the programme. The contributions were made in collaboration with Lembaga Kemajuan Ikan Malaysia Pulau Pinang .
