Integrated Annual Report 2019 Group Overview Sustaining The Group Management Discussion & Analysis Group Governance 98 ISLAMIC FINANCE AND KNOWLEDGE-SHARING As an Islamic Financial Holding Company that houses several pioneering Islamic banking and financial institutions, we have the intrinsic obligation to support the advancement of the Islamic economy, and grow the knowledge of financial instruments based on Shariah rules and principles. ILMU Knowledge Series Organised annually since 2016, the programme provides opportunities for the students and lecturers at higher learning institutions to gain practical knowledge of Islamic banking and finance from the actual practitioners. The Bank aims to utilise the programmes as a way to train future leaders and practitioners in the field of Islamic banking and finance, leading to the sustainment of the Islamic financial industry. The programme is intended to serve as a complement to the academic programmes offered by the universities. In 2019, about 800 students from various universities participated in the programme. Jelajah Kewangan Sosial Islam Organised in collaboration with Pusat Pungutan Zakat MAIWP, Pusat Wakaf MAIWP and Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (Religious Department of Federal Territory), the programme promotes public awareness and knowledge on matters and topics related to Zakat, Waqf and Sadaqa. In 2019, the programme was conducted during Friday prayers at 13 mosques within Kuala Lumpur, and were attended by a total of about 17,000 visitors. Signature Public Education Programme Bank Islam has made it’s mission to further propagate the knowledge of Islamic banking and financial system to members of the public as well as various educational institutions. As the pioneer and source of Shariah guidance, the Bank has been active in engaging with various local and international organisations in an advisory capacity. Our PILLARS
