Assisting the Students Monetary assistance was provided for the following schools and its students. The event also provided a platform to reach out to the local communities and help them to understand the concept of Takaful better, as well as convey its importance in providing coverage and protection. Location Recipients and Contribution Details Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Lui , Selangor • 77 indigenous schoolchildren • RM15,000 donated to the school Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulau Indah , Selangor • 50 indigenous schoolchildren received RM300 each • RM15,000 donated to the school Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Megat Aris , Perak • 30 students received RM300 each • RM15,000 donated to the school Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanjung Piandang , Perak • 20 students received RM300 each • RM15,000 donated to the school Additionally, RM30,000 was donated to Pusat Wakaf dan Zakat Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (“USIM”) , which benefitted 30 asnaf students of the campus. The donation will go a long way in helping them to pay for their study fees and cope with their daily needs. Integrated Annual Report 2019 Group Overview Sustaining The Group Management Discussion & Analysis Group Governance 88 Our PILLARS Cheer to Paediatric Patients Takaful Malaysia celebrated Chinese New Year with 50 paediatric patients at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM (“HCTM”). The patients were presented with a giftpack of toys and Ang Pows, and a donation of RM5,000 was made to the HCTM patient’s welfare fund. The fund provides financial support and immediate medical assistance to underprivileged patients receiving treatment at HCTM. An additional amount RM8,892 was also donated to HCTM along with four units of wheelchairs during Takaful Malaysia’s visit to the hospital. Helping the Disabled Takaful Malaysia collaborated with Malaysian Association for the Blind and Al-Tasneem Sdn. Bhd. in launching a first-of-its-kind an electronic device called the e-Cane. The device assists blind or visually-impaired people in navigating their way around places, giving them the ability to lead an independent life. The launch event for the device was organised in conjunction with White Cane Awareness Day, which emphasises the importance of white canes in helping blind people to move freely and safely from place to place. Takaful Malaysia distributed 100 e-Cane devices worth more than RM400,000 for the blind and visually-impaired. In addition, Takaful Malaysia donated RM20,000 to Pusat Harian Kanak- kanak Spastik Bandar Ipoh in Perak, which further emphasises its commitment to help the disabled. The centre has been providing care and shelter for the disabled, orphans, abandoned children and homeless for free since 1988.
