Bank Islam Integrated Annual Report 2024

OUR PROGRESS IN 2024 Supporting Microentrepreneurs Our iTEKAD microfinancing programmes, iTEKAD BangKIT and iTEKAD Maju, provide underbanked microentrepreneurs with access to funding, giving them the means to build their businesses and improve their livelihoods. Through these blended finance schemes, recipients benefit from business training, financial literacy resources, and or other forms of assistance to further empower their advancement, alongside financial capital. Moreover, the financing payments they make are then reinvested into new entrepreneurs, creating a positive circle of value creation within local communities. In 2024, we collaborated with local universities and higher education institutions to launch Hab Usahawan iTEKAD across six locations in Malaysia, creating spaces where aspiring entrepreneurs can upskill their business skills and learn more about our social finance offerings. Moving forward, we look forward to opening more hubs across Malaysia – in addition to the six we launched during the year – extending their reach to more states. We also worked with INCEIF University to explore the potential promotion of the ESG-i Assessment Framework to iTEKAD microentrepreneurs, providing them with valuable resources to help them transition to and succeed within the low-carbon economy, guided by the objectives of Maqasid Shariah. Our aim is to share the framework with our microentrepreneurs during 2025. In addition, we regularly organise development and training programmes that equip our microentrepreneurs with valuable skills and knowledge. In 2024, 19 business networking sessions were held, providing 652 microentrepreneurs from iTEKAD Maju and BangKIT with the chance to widen their networks and gain insights from others on a similar journey. iTEKAD Maju RM6.8 million disbursed, benefitting 151 individuals iTEKAD BangKIT RM5.5 million disbursed, benefitting 262 individuals Total Disbursement RM12.3 million disbursed in total, collectively benefitting 413 individuals ¹⁰ Grade 1 within the Impact Measurement Framework for iTEKAD microentrepreneurs reflects an improvement in creditworthiness.
