Bank Islam Integrated Annual Report 2024

ADVANCING PROSPERITY FOR ALL As a Shariah-driven Islamic financial institution, we strive towards a vision of inclusive prosperity that holistically benefits people, communities, and natural environments. To achieve this, we have embedded the principles of sustainability at the heart of our business, driving us forward to do what is good for our business, by doing what is right for all. Sustainability Statement MILESTONES ON OUR JOURNEY Our sustainability journey began in 2015 through BIMB Holdings Berhad (BHB), positioning ourselves as one of the earliest Main Market-listed Islamic financial holding company in Malaysia to pioneer sustainability initiatives. We then progressed significantly since 2019. Led by a focus on social finance and sustainable financing, we have established ourselves as a leader in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) within the financial industry, securing our long-term strength and value creation potential. • Bank Islam’s commitment to sustainability began in 2015 when we embarked on our journey through BIMB Holdings Berhad (BHB), Bank Islam's financial holding company then, laying the foundation for strong leadership and advocacy in sustainability. That same year, we began integrating sustainability practices into the Bank’s business model. • Bank Islam’s strategic direction progressed from “Hijrah to Excellence (H2E)” in 2015 to “Sustaining Capital through Liability Management” in 2016, demonstrating a shift towards more sustainable financial practices. • In 2016, we established the Sustainability Steering Committee to guide and align our sustainability strategy with BHB’s business objectives. BHB’s Sustainability Framework was also founded on our continuous commitment to acting as a responsible financial entity, unique in our status then as the country’s only Islamic Financial Holding Company. • In 2017, while adhering to Shariah rules and principles embedded across our business and operations, we began aligning our material matters with the UNSDGs. • By 2018, the Bank introduced Value-based Intermediation-inspired (VBI) building blocks with “Optimising Values”, marking a clear alignment of business goals with sustainability principles. • Recognising the importance of VBI, Bank Islam is focused on strategising key tactics to enable the gradual adoption of VBI principles across operations, ensuring long-term alignment with sustainability goals. 2015 – 2018 Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad ◆ Integrated Annual Report 2024 108
